actually turns out it was the pcmcia stuff.  I upgraded it with the tarball to
try and solve one problem.  Ended up re-installing RH6.0 to fix the problem.  I
tried to remove the new pcmcia stuff and reinstall the version that came with
RH6 to no avail.  Oh well, it works again.  Now just need to figure out how to
get rid of Gnome and go back to KDE.
