ImageMagick is a set of image-manipulation libraries that can be used with
the PerlMagick module, which is referenced at that page. ImageMagick
supports several image file formats, and can do some pretty sophisticated
things. I use it on my dad's site for automating the creation of thumbnail
images in his photo galleries.
