I want off of Netscap Mail.

All you really need is the kde-libs.  You don't need to use kde itself.  I use
icewm and kmail.  It is a nice mail program.  

Spruce is a gnome mail client that is getting real close to being usuable. 
Just a couple of features that I feel are important are not polished yet.
