SuSe6.4 & sound

Actual I wish it were that simple. The problem seems to be that SuSe6.4
automatically loads the Ensonig ens1371 driver whereas I need the
Sound Blaster 16 sb16 driver. I have been reading the PNP Howto and
the ALSA mini-Howto but I cannot figure out how to change the startup
configuration as it is aoutmatically generated and the vmlinuz.config
files states that it is not to be edited. So until this problem is solved
there will be no sound with this distro!
