A question on IFCONFIG and RedHat 6.1 (plus looking for some help)

You didn't give too many details on the ifconfig issue, so I don't know
if this is relevant, but it's one thing to check.  I've found that
RedHat's network scripts read the "eth" names (eth0:0, eth0:1, etc) in
alphabetical order rather than numerical.  To get them to appear in
logical order, I had to pad the filenames in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ (ifcfg-eth0:0, etc.) with zeros.  So, if
I had between 11 and 100 virtual IP's (eth0 - eth99), the files would
start off as ifcfg-eth0:00, ifcfg-eth0:01, etc.  I didn't pad the actual
name within each file though, just the filename.  So ifcfg-eth0:00 would
have a line "DEVICE=eth0:0".

If this doesn't help, it sounds like Jean Francois is on the way to the
rescue.
