Quesion of interest

I haven't taken any, the guy in my class swears all you have to do is read 
the study guides and take the test, that is what he says he did for the VB 
and SQL tests...  His company just laid off 110 people right before Xmas...  
Scary stuff...  I have thought about giving in and taking the tests, but 
full time work and school eats up a lot of time...
