The Saturday Meetings

Saturday, Februrary 26th, 2000 was the last meeting to be held in Inficad's training room. Inficad has decided to use the room for other purposes. Ken and Hans (and Joy) are working on getting a meeting started at Viking Systems at I-17 & Dunlop. Nothing is final yet, but they are working on getting a workshop-type meeting scheduled for the third Thursdays of the month. Watch the mailing list to see what happens here.

PLUG has had a huge amount of success with our Thursday meetings. Over the last year, average attendance has been well over 60 members. While this is GREAT, it is causing some difficulties. The meeting room at the Boys & Girls Club of Scottsdale just is not big enough for us now. Wes and the Boys & Girls Club have been absolutely great, but we are pushing the limits. It is time for PLUG to start looking around for a new place to hold the Thursday meetings. This is your opportunity to help PLUG grow.

Let me post a list of "requirements" that would be nice to have for the Thursday meetings.

Important things
================
Room for up to 100
Network connectivity and power
Free (as we have no money)
Solid booking (the room is ours every month for some time in the future)
Second Thursday of the month availability (but we could change, if necessary, I guess)
Reasonable parking

Nice things
===========
Access to A/V equipment
Ability to bring in food and drink
Near some food place that's still open after the meetings
Less than 3 hops from debian.org

See Hans - I even left the debian proximity issue in there. Now there are probably dozens of places that provide meeting facilities that meet most, if not all, of those requirements. We are the most technologically progressive organization in the state, aren't we? Those places will be fighting to let us use their facilities if they know we are looking for new digs. If you have a place in mind that might be interested in hosting the Thursday PLUG meetings, check with them and see if they are willing and able. If you don't want to do it, drop me an email and with the information and a contact name and phone number or email address and I will contact them. We need to get this done and we need to get it done soon. If you need motivation, imagine the future, where PLUG meetings are getting 150 people attending each month and speakers from all over the country are jiggling their schedules just to be able to do a presentation at a PLUG meeting. It WILL happen.
