I hate to even think this, much less suggest it, but you could try installing things from source.

It can be painful, though.

That is a problem - PHP 7.0.

I started by installing Ubuntu 18.04lts and then found out that Magento 2 is not compatible with PHP 7.2.  

With Magento 2 not being compatible with PHP 7.2...  I tried installing PHP 7.1 on Ubuntu 18.04lts, however there is issues with unmet dependencies.

I'm a software developer not a system admin.  I can do some stuff... I like to install what comes with the distro.  I like Ubuntu... however this is not as clean as I'd like it to b
